Second Chance Animal Shelter offers remarkably affordable spay and neuter services for cats:
Neuter (8 weeks to 5 years) costs $50
Spay (8 weeks to 5 years) costs $65
Flea/ear mite treatment costs an additional $10
For feral cats, the spay/neuter, distemper, combination vaccinate, ear tip and flea/ear mite treatment costs $30
These fees offer an incredibly good value. Shelter Me Inc, our animal rescue organization had the good fortune recently to take advantage of the low-cost services that Second Offers for feral cats. Working in conjunction with Sheila Donahue, the animal control officer of Oxford, MA, Shelter Me Inc recently paid $180 to spay/neuter and vaccinate six cats. A couple weeks ago, before we knew about Second Chance's services, we paid $173 to spay, vaccinate and test one female cat. Frankly, $173 was a pretty good price in-and-of- itself. At the time, the veterinarian gave us a 50% discount and we were glad to receive it. Like everyone else, veterinarians have to make a living and from the perspective of our animal rescue organization, we want to pay a fair price for their services.
What Second Chance is doing, however, is offering a service that is different from veterinarians, in terms of specializing exclusively in spay and neuter. As they explain on their site:
Second Chance's S.P.O.T. program helps pet owners afford the cost of spaying or neutering their pet. It is not meant as a replacement for regular veterinary care but as a resource to help those that need financial assistance getting their pets spayed/neutered.
