Nicki Minaj, along with some help from Lil Wayne, has released a music video for 'High School.' The song appears on her album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up.
'High School' begins with credits. The list of who's in the video, along with the opening premise: Minaj is the girlfriend of a rich character known as El Jefe, Wayne and Birdman arrive at their mansion, and there appears to be an immediate attraction between Minaj and Wanye. With a setup like that the viewer expects this video to tell a real story, but there's not much story to tell. Whatever business is going on between Wayne and El Jefe looks less than legal but is never explained. We see Minaj and Wayne in bed together and the video closes with the duo robbing Jefe's safe full of jewels and making a getaway.
The video is mostly a mix of Minaj in various revealing outfits and a scene of Minaj and Wayne together in bed. While they try to make things between the two look steamy Minaj has revealed that things weren't exactly as they appeared. First she told MTV "Wayne said we had to kiss for the video. He was like, one thing that's going to sell it is if we really kiss. I'm like, ehh." Later in the same interview she said of Wayne's reluctance while filming the scene "But if I didn't tell him 'Yes, you can do this' or 'touch this,' he refused to do it, like he's a southern gentlemen, which people don't realize." Minaj didn't want to kiss Wayne, Wayne didn't want to touch Minaj. How sexy is this video? In terms of videos of people who sound like they want nothing to do with each other, it's as sexy as it's going to get.
