While driving down mineola boulevard, I noticed that Nick's Tuscan Grill had taken over the building once occupied by the prior resident Andiamo restaurant. Having heard of Nick's reputation for good italian food when it was located in long beach, on the south shore, I wanted to check out this new north shore dining venue.. We arrived for dinner on a rainy tuesday night and were delighted to find a bright, welcoming place to relax and enjoy an excellent meal.
Nick's Tuscan Grill was one of long beach's favorite italian restaurants before the shops, restaurants and boardwalk were destroyed by hurricane sandy. Today the new Nick's has re-appeared as a sophisticated intimate restaurant in Mineola and has made its presence known on the north shore. Nick's is the quintessential local community restaurant with a style and cuisine comparable to many of the north shore's best.
The new Nick's, has a manhattan style and sophistication with beautiful wood panels, elegant lighting, ceramic tile floors, and live music one night a week, wood tables and chairs. It also has a small amply stocked bar area, and panel front doors that open to accomodate outdoor dining.. We were seated at a table with a perfect view of the entire dining room and bar. Danny, our host for the evening brought out a fabulous, large hot antipasto to begin our italian feast. Our antipasto had baked breaded clams, two large and delicious meatballs, a fresh mozzarella pinwheel, a generous portion of calamari fritti and a delicious round eggplant parmigiana. Each selection was perfectly prepared, delicious, and almost a meal in itself....
We love Caesar Salads and Nick's Caesar salad was comparable to many of the best on the North Shore. It arrived at our table in an overflowing bowl of Romaine, shaved peccorino, garlic crostini and anchovies.
After discussing the menu with Danny, we selected two house specialty dishes as our entrees:
Francaise Three Ways- Battered Veal, Chicken, Jumbo Shrimp, topped with baby artichokes in a white wine, lemon and butter sauce, served with penne in a rich marinara sauce. Something for everyone's taste, and more than enough for a "goody bag for the following day.
Baked Stuffed Shrimp- Large and plump shrimp stuffed with lobster and crabmeat. Served with parmesan risotto. A cornucopeia of "neptune's" best. Moist tender, beautifully prepared. An aromatic and taste treat!
Our dreary rainy day had turned sunny when we arrived at Nick's Tuscan Grill.
To end our wonderful evening on a sweet note we tried a very special dessert- a creme brulee cheesecake- Rich, smooth, and over the top delicious..
Congratulations to the new owners, Sam, Carol, and Danny, for creating a highly enjoyable new italian restaurant on the north shore.
