I was lucky enough to tour the new Ritz Carlton Vail recently and I must say, I was very impressed. They've taken the typical alpine look and created something more elegant than a plaid-log motif. It's rustic, homey, but still upscale and Bavarian.
This Ritz Carlton is a members-only Residence Club location, which means that only members of their fractional residence program can stay there. If you're not a member, you can rent from one through an outside agency (try Travel En Vogue).
The great thing about the Residence Club is the fact that they're all condos, available in 2 and 3 bedroom units. They have huge bay windows in the living rooms with lots of light, elegant dining rooms, and fully equipped gourmet kitchens. They also have a washer/dryer and guest powder room. The bedrooms were really spacious and had walk-in closets and phenomenal bathrooms. The views are mountain or valley, both of which I think are great. With Colorado scenery you really can't go wrong.
There are several amenities worth noting. The year-round heated outdoor pool and hot tub are surrounded by trees and mountains. In the winter you'll see a snowy white landscape, and in the summer enjoy the beautiful foliage. There is also a spa and fitness center and an outdoor firepit. The Ritz Carlton firepits are a really fun concept. The kids especially love going to the firepit at night and making s'mores. The Lobby Bar is really cozy and is a great place to have a glass of wine after a long day of activities. The Great Room has large windows that offer a great view, comfortable furniture, fireplace, and library.
The Ritz Carlton Vail is also well-located. Vail is a terrific resort town that I enjoy in summer and winter. There are so many outdoor activities that you can do in any season. Skiing is my personal favorite, but I enjoy hiking and biking with my family in the summer as well. The town offers plenty of dining options and nightlife. I always enjoy Colorado style cuisine and Vail has some of the best restaurants!
I highly recommend the Ritz Carlton Vail for families and large groups that love the outdoors and fine mountain accommodations.
