If you are a food lover and have a subscription to Netflix and haven't seen Kings of Pastry yet, then you should add it to your "must see" movies queue now. The film follows a group of world-class French pastry chefs as they compete for France's most prestigious craftsmen award: Meilleur Ouvrier de France (the MOF), a competition that happens once every four years. We are told the honor of wearing the blue, white and red striped collar given to the winners is considered to be the ultimate recognition of excellence in the pastry field and that wearing the striped collar without earning it legitimately is a crime in France!
The filmmakers D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus are master documentary filmmakers (The War Room (1993)) and really put the viewers right into the action of the chefs' creative processes and magical craftsmanship. There are a few scenes in Kings of Pastry that will likely make your jaws drop from witnessing the beauty of the chefs' creations and scream with disappointment as inevitable mishaps appear on screen during the time-limited competitions.
