Big changes are happening on “Necessary Roughness” with the season finale “Sympathy for the Devil,” which aired on August 21. Connor McLane (John Stamos) is trying to flee the country, TK (Mehcad Brooks) is determined to get his Superbowl ring, and Dani (Callie Thorne) is still helping clients, even after they’ve disappeared.
After a season with V3 on the USA Network, it’s hard to picture Connor McClane at fault for the gene doping -- or as Nico (Scott Cohen) says, the biggest sports scandal in history. Yet, that’s because it’s always seemed like Troy (David Anders) was the bad guy, while Connor spent his time motivating his agents and clients. But Connor has, from the start, been about winning, no matter what. So is it really all that far fetched to think he’s involved?
Not at all, especially when the always persistent Dani tracks down Hutchinson and discovers he’s the smoking gun. Connor admitted to Hutch he knew about the drug, because he thought it was the best way for his sport clients to succeed. Plus, he says, “It’s my house, I know what goes on under its roof.”
TK versus the Hawks
While the “Necessary Roughness” doping scandal came to light, TK had other things on his mind, like getting into the game that would determine if the NJ Bobcats would make it into the playoffs. Naturally this game is against his old team, the NY Hawks, and despite a painful shoulder, TK is determined to play.
TK is getting help from physical therapist India to get back in the game, but he’s not getting much support from Sheera (Kate Miner), who thinks he should do whatever it takes to win -- even it means taking the drug. And finally Sheera becomes “unvarnished” to TK, and he realizes that her love is just a tool to get some place. Just like that -- finally -- he decides he’s done with her, and he’s okay with that.
As for the game, he doesn’t get much play time, but he makes the last few seconds of the game count with a “danger” play that leads to a winning Bobcats touchdown and TK possibly out of football due to a worsened injury. But TK got what he wanted, a chance for vengeance against his old Hawks coach, and that’s pretty thrilling.
Will Connor make it out of the country?
Dani amazingly does stop Connor from boarding his private plane, but even more amazingly she gets him to stick around and share his side of the story on “Necessary Roughness” “Sympathy for the Devil.”
Connor’s opinion is that he gave his clients everything, and Crabchek and Hutchinson destroyed themselves. “There’s a price to pay for greatness,” he says. But what does he hope to gain by telling Dani all this? It’s not clear. But there is one thing Dani wants: for Connor to give Hutch another chance by getting him into the minor leagues. And apparently that’s all he needs to do to appease Dani. Forget the police, bizarrely enough, because she gives the vial of drugs back to Connor. He then, presumably, flies off into the sunset, because all she tells him is that she hopes he finds a way to sleep at night.
Nico and Dani
So Connor is out of the picture, and Bruce is going to take over V3. So where does that leave “Necessary Roughness” from here, should the USA Network show get renewed for a season four?
Chances are it’ll have something to do with Dani and Nico. But their relationship is anything but simple. They may have hooked up, but what happens when she finds out that Nico is, in fact, married to a woman named Alex? Well, of course his marriage isn’t quite traditional. It was more work-related than anything, and now that Nico is done with the FBI, it’s time for him and Alex to get a divorce.
But can Dani really trust Nico? Does she really know him? She wonders the same thing, but not for too long, because as Nico points out to Dani, “You know what kind of man I am.” And then he shares his birth name, Dominic.
He also then takes her to his private plane to get away for awhile. “There’s some things about me that you should know,” he says. Dani might be done with the Hawks and V3 -- hopefully -- but her adventures are just getting started, if “Necessary Roughness” is renewed.
