Friday night one of Carson City / Reno’s favorite blues artists, Shane Dwight brought his band to The High Sierra Brewing Company in Carson City. I say ‘favorite’ because he comes through town at least 3 or 4 times a year if not more. His band is a regular at Reno’s BBQ, Brews and Blues event put on by The El Dorado Casino every summer.
Having followed Shane for several years it was no surprise that the High Sierra Brewing Company was packed and Shane had the dance floor full by the third song of the night. It’s been my experience that off stage Shane is a soft spoken, quiet man who tends to be strongly focused on the upcoming show, but once the show starts he holds nothing back and works up a sweat giving his all to the audience. He has a devoted group of followers too. As the show was getting ready to begin I spoke with several people that had stories of previous Shane Dwight shows they had seen. His style of blues is that of a powerful hand. He strikes his guitar with an articulate force that defies you to not notice he’s there. Shane is one of those truly hard working artists – constantly touring – playing both small and large venues. The mission: bring the blues to the people.
Shane has recorded a new CD that will be out soon on his new label, but it is available at his shows if you’re lucky enough to get to one. Your next chance to see The Shane Dwight Band in Carson City will be in just a couple months. So make your plans now to get your brews and blues on at The High Sierra Brewing Company on New Year’s Eve. Good eats too!
