Nanjing, China - Looking for a new hangout and a place to find American-style pizza and drink? Try Jimmy’s located behind the Sheraton Hotel. What makes this sports bar different is that they have a ton of specials available and a great atmosphere.
Upon walking through the door, my party and I were greeted warmly by several staff members. It was a weekday evening, so we were seated immediately. A friendly server took our drink orders and returned with them promptly. She told us that our waiter would be with us momentarily -- and he was. He was extraordinarily polite and pleasant and when asked, made suggestions on what to order.
I really enjoyed our pepperoni pizza, with the most authentic crust I’ve had in China. The sauce is nice. Perhaps the only complaint is that they do seem a bit skimpy with the toppings. Even the smaller size may be too much. Other dishes are standard bar fare and reasonably priced.
Jimmy’s is a Nanjing institution with its famous tagline of: “Ain’t no party like a Communist Party, ‘cause a Communist party don’t stop.” Jimmy’s previously had a second location in the heart of Nanjing’s university district on Shanghai Road, but closed a few years ago.
Our waiter returned frequently, though not intrusively, to check on us and to push ordering extra drinks. At the end of the meal, he promptly brought us the check. We were far too full to even consider dessert, though the offerings were meager anyway. We didn't feel like we were missing out on much by skipping dessert.
I’m told weekends are quite busy at Jimmy’s and whenever a “must-watch” sports game is on TV. Bottom line: Jimmy’s is the only choice for quality pizza in Nanjing.
