Current Art exhibits by Gilles Perrin "Yeno Konjo" Portrait of a People and David Philpot "Time" are a must see. It is my opinion that it is indeed a rare opportunity and privilege to see such artwork firsthand.
The Portraits of a People by Gilles Perrin will take your breath away. He has captured unique portraits that provide a peak into a culture that is quite different from our own. It appears that as each individual faced the formidable lens of the camera that they bravely revealed their inner light. I was awed so I give the exhibit a 5 star rating.
I asked the photographer, Gilles Perrin, how he was able to get his subjects to agree to have their photographs taken and I was told his wife, Nicole Ewenczyk, arranged the sittings. If you would like more information about this artist he has a facebook page and an official website. It may interest you to know that "The "Detroit Resurgent" commissioned portraits by the French photographer. His photographs are currently at the Michigan State University Museum. Artist David Philpot Time exhibit should not be missed. I can't imagine the work involved in assembling his furniture pieces and carving and detailing his staffs. His work is just amazing. The Chicago artist moved to Detroit two years ago and he gives a brief and informal video interview with CriticCar Detroit. Click here to view at http://youtu.be/jIjpSXLaNUA
The N'Namdi Center for Contemporary Art Founder George N' Namdi is giving Detroit a real treat by housing these "two" one of a kind exhibits at once. I was not planning on writing a review but I really enjoyed this exhibit and I recommend it to anyone who appreciates art.
