mylittlebrother: 'Hey Stethoscope' (2013)

"Hey Stethoscope" by mylittlebrother is a very 60's pop sounding EP.

The initial sound of the first song turned me off a bit- as it sounded like a very canned keyboard, almost like the kind of samples that come with a Radioshack keyboard or something. Quickly though the vocals come in and begin to fill things out, by the time the track is done their quite talented take on this retro style is solidified, and the initial reaction to the kind of cheesy sounding keyboard is gone.

The title track of the album is pure pop bliss, the real highlight of this song being the warm and rich vocal harmonies.

The short piece "Neither Young nor Foolish" is a very heavy statement wrapped in a simple little package- a heavy deviation from the surrounding tracks, and a much welcome interlude.

The final track (entitled: "Steve") is a good example of all their best elements working together, also the lyrics in this particular track are mylittlebrother at their peak of cleverness.
