I gave my son his gift for his 4th birthday and we named him Houston, in light of the late great. He is a beautiful yellow Lab mix that I got for free in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. We are going through some changes so I thought it would be a great thing to take his and the rest of the children’s mind off the subject, and it did. We couldn’t help but give the puppy the name Houston, seeing as she did die the same day we picked him up. I then started to think when watching VH1 the other morning, sure brought back some wonderful memories; I realized what an impact Whitney Houston had on my young life. She was surely the first woman I looked up too on a fashion standard. I then realized I never saw any color with her as well.
“The Greatest Love of All” keeps reeling in my head. And it actually has throughout my whole ordeal..
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride
Let the children’s laughter, remind how we used to be
The words are amazing, that is a really powerful message. After listening to all her videos on VH1 Sunday night and Monday morning, I realized I knew every word to every song she ever sang. They all had a beautiful message. We don’t seem to have that kind of love song or message for our children in this day and age of pop music. At least not that cut and dry.
Well I will be able to tell my son where his dog’s name came from some day, when he fully understands. I wonder who he will feel was the pioneer of his fashion and music sense, when he is 35, that is a wonderful thing to think about.
I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone’s shadow
If I fail, if I succeed, at least I lived as I believed
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity
Because, the greatest love of all is inside of me
