The My Father No. 1 Robusto by Don Pepin Garcia. At first glance, this stick shows minimal veins, and flawless construction. Upon taking a cold-draw, the palette was greeted by hints of cinnamon, and coffee notes. When first light, profound flavors of coffee, and spice greet the palette along with toasty undertones.
The finish is slightly peppery, though not overwhelming.
The profound coffee, and spice notes carry themselves smoothly into the first third of this cigar (approximately fifteen minutes). The finish also introduces the palette to leathery notes, along with sweet peppery undertones.
Approximately twenty minutes has gone by, and the leathery notes transition smoothly to reveal peppery aromas then shift to coffee notes, adding a touch of spice notes, and cedar wood.
The finish is rather creamy, with spice notes, mild leathery nuances, and cafe-latte flavors.
During the forty minute mark, the leathery nuances fade away leaving a pleasant shift of spice, and coffee notes interlaced with a slight peppery finish.
Another flavor shift can be felt on the palette during the forty-five minute mark. Prominent spice notes join the flavor profile alongside leathery nuances. A minute later, the ash falls for the first time during the smoking period. The flavor notes include a pleasant array of coffee, and leather notes.
At the fifty-three minute mark, the palette is reacquainted with leathery nuances, and spice notes. The cigar begins to burn a bit warmly during this time, although maintaining a somewhat cool smoke output.
The flavors remain unchanged as an hour, and twenty minutes have gone by. Smooth flavors of Coffee, and spice continue throughout, with a touch of cream, and leathery subtleties. The finish was a bit spicy.
As far as construction is concerned, this particular cigar showed no signs of needing any touch-ups. The burn remained even, and self-correcting throughout the entire smoking experience. No apparent inconsistencies were found. This is a phenomenal cigar that deserves a place amongst the best of humidors. Its flavors are sure to please even the most sophisticated of connoisseurs alike.
