I got to a certain point in my fitness journey where I was ready to start supplementing. It's pretty confusing for newbies and I was forever grateful for the step by step guides on Bodybuilding.com that helped me put together a stack of supplements that catered to my specific needs.
One of the products in the stack was MusclePharm Assault. It's a Pre-Workout powder that is designed to give you energy that you need to complete intense workouts. It also aides in developing muscle. There are several different flavors of MusclePharm. I chose the Watermelon Flavor, and will probably stick with that flavor in the future.
Prior to using this product, I had never taken a Pre-Workout before, so I was unsure as to what the taste or the effects would be.
First the good. It works. I noticed a huge improvement in my workouts as opposed to when I didn't use it. It takes about 30 minutes for it to begin to work, so I was able to drink it while I got ready to go to the gym. It lasts a couple of hours and there is no crash after it wears out. I also noticed that my soreness was less than on days when I didn't use a product.
Now for the not so good. It tastes awful. After talking to a few people, I learned that most pre-workouts taste that way because they are straight amino acids. They aren't supposed to taste good, they are supposed to work. The taste was extremely hard for me to get past, but after contacting someone at MusclePharm, I was told that I could increase the amount of water I mixed it with and it would cut down on the bitterness. And it worked. I also mixed it with 1/2 water and 1/2 orange juice.
Once I found the perfect mix of powder and liquid, I was able to fully enjoy the MusclePharm Assault. I use it daily, before my morning workout, and I have noticed an increase in performance and I set a new PR at the last 5K I ran.
