When the Lake Worth Casino building reopened in 2013, several restaurants took up residence in the newly renovated space on the rebuilt, pedestrian-only beachfront area. Mulligan's was one of them, and there's been a crowd of runners, walkers, cyclists and beachgoers there ever since.

The early-morning crowd is probably attracted by a few things: the relatively large number of parking spaces available, and the fact that Mulligan's offers a large and varied breakfast/brunch menu. And there's also the ocean view, just steps from the restaurant.

And speaking of the parking: yes, there is plenty of it, in both the city lot on the west side and the Richard G. Kreusler Park lot on the north side. But the meters take only coins and when they are not acting up, credit cards. No bills are accepted. So if you are coming, bring change.

The Mulligan's menu more than makes up for the parking issues, with everything from classics like pancakes, omelets and French toast to variations on them: peanut butter chip pancakes, pancakes stuffed with berries, bananas or orange cream, omelets with seafood, spinach, breakfast meats or cheese and lighter fare for the athletically-inclined who seem to end up here after a few hours on their bikes or surfboards. There is the classic eggs Benedict, or one with fried chicken, crabmeat, smoked salmon or sausage. You can have a BLT for breakfast, or steak and eggs or even a burger; Mulligan's makes a point not to judge what you want, only to make sure you get it.

On a busy Sunday morning, in a group of 22 people, both the food and the service were outstanding. Orders were taken promptly, beverages were kept refilled and most of the orders came out together, and were correct. Portions were substantial enough to be shared easily, and in the group, virtually all the plates that went back to the kitchen were empty. Eggs dishes were fluffy, home fries crispy and not greasy, and the bacon and sausage were well done and not dried out. The only complaint heard was that toast and bagel preparations could have used a bit more toasting.

Prices are reasonable for the amount of food: coffee drinks and specialty alcohol preparations (mimosas and Bloody Marys) are $2 to $9, breakfast sides ordered a la carte are $2 to $6 and platters are $6 to $14.

Whether you surf, cycle or run near the Lake Worth Municipal Pier, don't miss Mulligan's for a morning meal.
