Mulan / Mulan 2 three disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray comes home

Disney is known for their infamous vault of films. For those that have been living in a vault and do not know what it is, it’s where they store all their movies and periodically re-release them in various formats. This brilliant tradition has made Disney films not only maintain their classic feel and nature, but also keeps from watering down the market. Their Blu-ray releases sport high definition with restored picture and sound, as well as numerous special features. The latest films to get this treatment come in the special edition two pack of Mulan / Mulan 2.

In 1998 Mulan hit theaters delivering a film a bit different than what they had put out before. It took on both history and culture to deliver a film that felt much like the epic live action Asian films. The story is great dealing with multiple issues including loyalty, war, love and culture to bring together one of the deeper stories of the Disney archive. Underneath the epic serious and at times violent nature, they keep on par with adding the humor as well through various characters. The animation is as beautiful as it is epic with the attention to detail really bringing the world of China to life. One of the more important things for this film to work comes in the form of the martial arts used throughout which they clearly spent quality time on research as it was executed with perfection. The voice acting was great across the board featuring the voice talents of Ming-Na Wen, Eddie Murphy, BD Wong, Miguel Ferrer, James Hong, Pat Morita, and George Takei.

In addition to Mulan, this 3 disc collector’s edition also includes 2004’s Mulan 2. In the sequel it continues dealing with the relationship between Mulan and Li Shang, but also shifts a lot of the focus to the other characters finding possible love and Mushu’s jealous attempt to destroy it all. While the sequel lacks the epic nature of the original film, it still delivers the beautiful animation. Since it focuses on more of the romantic aspects and puts all the action and war stuff in the background. This film goes more in the humor direction and delivers a fun film as opposed to the epic nature of the original. Regardless this sequel is well worth checking out.

In addition to the brilliant look and feel of this Blu-ray high def version, it also sports some great special features including deleted scenes, making of featurettes, music videos featuring Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder, and Jackie Chan, commentaries, and more. This is sure to be a must have for any Disney fan’s collection so get out and grab your copy available now.
