Kotobukiya has done it again. By “it” I mean they have developed another lovely lady to add to the Marvel Bishoujo (pretty girl) Collection. This time they have chosen the superhuman member of the Kree, Ms. Marvel. As a replacement for the Scarlet Witch, Ms. Marvel was a valuable asset to the Avengers; bringing super strength, durability, flight, and precognitive abilities; all in a super sexy package.
Carol Danvers, a former fighter pilot for the Air Force, was an agent for the CIA. As one of their top field agents, Carol was often paired with other agents, Michael Rossi, Logan (Wolverine), and test pilot Ben Grimm (The Fantastic Four’s The Thing). After a botched mission landed her in a Soviet prison, Carol left the CIA to pursue a career with NASA. There she met Mar-Vell, aka Captain Marvel; a member of the alien race, the Kree. While on a mission, Carol inadvertently got hit with a blast from a Psyche-Magnetron, a Kree weapon that expels radiation. Captain Marvel attempted to protect her from the blast, but was unable to shield her completely. As a result, Carol became imbued with superhuman powers and a new career field as the super heroine, Ms. Marvel.
Sculpted in her black one piece body suit with a bright gold lighting bolt emblazoned across the front, Ms. Marvel flaunts her lovely assets as well as her newer, signature look. Ms Marvel’s original outfit was based on Captain Marvel’s uniform and was very different than this second incarnation. Here she wears her red sash, once a part of her original costume, wrapped around her waist as an homage to her past but aslo as a nod to the amazing superhero she became in her own right.
This figure has amazingly clean long lines and a lot of style. From the removable blasts coming from her hands to the flair of the sash around her waist, Koto demonstrates its love for the dramatic. As if she were about to take flight, Ms Marvel’s long blond hair floats out behind her adding to the illusion of movement we get from the position of her legs and the tilt of her body.
Unfortunately the details on this Japanese import are very limited. She is a part of Kotobukiya’s Marvel Bishoujo Collection so she is 1/7 scale; she stands approximately 9 1/10 inches tall. As of yet, the sculpt is not available from preorder but hopes are high for a March 2011 release date.
**Writer's note: PVC figures will usually get a star rating of no more than two simply because of the quality of the material used in the sculpt. A polystone or porcelain figure will almost always rate higher.
