Mr. Dunderbak's, conveniently located by the University of South Florida, has quite the food and beer selection to offer its patrons. In fact, with their long tables from the Hofbrau House, live German music, and a selection of over 450 beers (55 draft beers and hundreds available in a bottle), it's like Oktoberfest never has to end. The inside is dark and cozy, with a plethora of amazing European decor, reminding one of being in a German cabin. Their menu consists of Classic Sandwiches, Homemade Soups and Salads, and Speciality Platters and Sandwiches, along with a number of sides ranging from fries to applesauce.
Being that Schnitzel is classically German, a Pork Schnitzel sandwich (pictured) was to be had. A lightly breaded pork cutlet with lettuce, tomato and mayo, set on a kaiser roll, this sandwich is apparently a lunch crowd favorite (at $7.99 for the meal, how can you possibly beat it?). The breading is perfect and non-greasy. The sandwich is piled high with these amazing slices of pork to make for a big, delicious sandwich.
Other food recommendations: Deep Fried Pickles, Garlic and Herb Pan-Fried Potatoes and Piergoes.
Before exiting, be sure to browse the marketplace. At Mr. Dunderbak's you can buy meats, cheeses, candy, cookies and chocolates, all traditionally only found in Europe. You can also purchase glassware, steins, and homebrew kits.
All this and the staff is amazing too. From the waitresses to the cooks, from the bartender to the deli worker, all employees take pride in their restaurant and are happy and fast with their service.
Mr. Dunderbak's is the #7 ranked Tampa restaurant on UrbanSpoon and the official meeting place for the award winning homebrew club, Tampa Bay B.E.E.R.S.
