To one who loves documentaries, such as I do, most are very import films. Films such as “Black Fish” and “The Crash Reel,” which is about serious head injuries sustained during snowboarding. They shine a light on things most people would never think about.

"Mr. Angel," (Breaking Glass, 2013), played at SXSW last year and is now available on DVD.

Shot over six years, Mr. Angel chronicles the extraordinary life of transgender activist, educator and porn pioneer, Buck Angel. Buck has survived addiction, homelessness, suicide and relentless opposition to his gender expression. Still, he lives his truth without compromise or apology.
This feature length documentary explores Buck's moving story to understand the complexities of someone who overcame incredible obstacles, then shamelessly sought the spotlight and its backlash, to share his message of empowerment. An inspirational story of rare perseverance and an unlikely hero

As the film started I was a bit unsure of Buck, who was he/she? Why is he important enough to do a whole feature length documentary about? I soon found all the answers to these and more questions as I watched the film.

Buck was born a girl. You would never suspect him of having been a woman, except for a slightly high voice, which I stopped noticing as the film went on. Buck’s life has been very difficult to say the least, read the synopsis above. He has turned out to be a rather wonderful person. The film introduces the audience to him and his wife Elayne. They are a fairly normal couple who happen to work within the adult film industry and, of course, Buck is transgender.

I enjoyed learning about Buck and Elayne and decided that their story is very important and a lot of people should open their mind, just a bit and check out Mr. Angel.
