A young zombie, known as R, eats the brains of another young man and absorbs his memories. One of which is his love for Julie, who is not a zombie. R falls in love with Julie and saves her from a horde of zombies by sneaking her into his home where he attempts to seduce her.
Nicholas Hoult ( R ), Teresa Palmer (Julie), Analeigh Tipton (Nora), Rob Corddry (M), Dave Franco (Perry), John Malkovich (Grigio), Cory Hardrict (Kevin).
Warm Bodies is an interesting zombie flick that does a good job of turning common assumptions about zombies on their head. Zombies actually are thinking, they do have feelings, and are even able to communicate. Even their reason for eating brains makes sense! At the same time, the film doesn't sugarcoat the zombie craving for flesh, or what happens when a zombie gets a hold of some. What it does do is keep you entertained while creating new perspectives rolled in a fluffy, chocolate covered romantic drama shell.
Acting was a bit below grade but fit the film pretty well. Hoult did well as the lead, and Palmer played against him nicely. Franco delivered his usual with just a hint of humility. Malkovich was a bit out of type but did okay. The remainder of the supporting cast was solid if a bit green.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were fairly well done and felt solid. Physical and gore effects were pretty good and fit the movie nicely. Dialogue was amusing and entertaining at the same time with bits of humor thrown in between the horror and drama. Sound and soundtrack were enjoyable.
Overall Warm Bodies is an entertaining zombie flick not because of good technical work, but because of the plausible explanations behind common assumptions about zombies that are challenged. Zombie flick fans, and even some romantic drama fans, will enjoy this the most.
With some foul language and zombie violence, this should be fine for teens and above.
Warm Bodies is no longer showing in any Littleton, Colorado movie theatres.
