American Muslim Yusuf (Michael Sheen) announces that the nuclear bombs he has planted in three mystery locations in the United States will go off in two days if his demands are not met. Special Agent Helen Brody (Carrie-Anne Moss) and her FBI counter-terrorism team must work with "H" (Samuel L. Jackson), a black ops agent, to interrogate him. What ensues is a story of torture and mind games.
"Unthinkable" poses a question that may haunt its viewers for a long time: How far are some people willing to go to save the lives of millions? The answer is scathing. When cornered, they are willing to push the limits of inhumanity. After all, "This is war, " as H says.
However, there is more to "Unthinkable" than the obvious extreme violence. The storyline cleverly brings to light the strengths and weaknesses of each character, creating a stifling and uncomfortable atmosphere. With the clock ticking, viewers find themselves forced to face their deepest doubts, fears and the soundness of their value system. Jackson and Moss deliver what is probably the best performances of their careers.
Overall, "Unthinkable" is an eye-opener on the realities of torture and should only be watched by adults. The movie is rated R for strong bloody violence, torture and language.
"Unthinkable" was released in 2009. Director: Gregor Jordan. Main cast: Samuel L. Jackson, Carrie-Anne Moss and Michael Sheen.
The movie is available on DVD and Blu-ray. You don't want to miss the alternate ending!
