Twenty years ago Sam's father, Kevin, disappeared. Now Kevin is running the technology company his dad built when he gets a tip about Kevin's life and heads to an old arcade that he owned. Not knowing what happened, Sam finds himself in a computerized world in the midst of a civil war. The same world his father has been trapped inside all this time.
Jeff Bridges (Kevin/Clu), Olivia Wilde (Quorra), Garrett Hedlund (Sam), Bruce Boxleitner (Alan/Tron), James Frain (Jarvis), Beau Garrett (Gem), Michael Sheen (Castor/Zuse), Anis Cheurfa (Rinzler), Serinda Swan (Siren #2).
After waiting almost 29 years Tron is finally back with updated graphics and a lot more potential. This sequel does a great job of trying to pick up where the original left off without caring to make sure the stories match by jumping us ahead without much rehashing of history. Once we get a chance to figure out where the story is at, and to get familiar with the new and improved graphics, the story comes to life and we are right back into a computerized world of fast action and incredible possibility.
Acting was decent from Bridges though the 80's slang felt more than a bit out of place. Wilde and Hedlund really made the movie though and seemed to have a good chemistry together. Boxleitner was mediocre though in his defense, didn't have many lines.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were primarily CGI but nicely done. The movie really felt a lot like the old game. Even the extensive character CGI was fairly well done and even hard to spot at times. Effects were again CGI and fit the film very well. Dialogue was mediocre but then, this film isn't about the dialogue. Sound and soundtrack were both well done.
Overall Tron: Legacy is one that fans of the original will probably enjoy quite a bit. Those who didn't grow up with the video game will probably fail to be impressed. With a nice balance of action and drama this is a decent choice for family movie night.
With plenty of sci-fi violence and mild foul language this should be fine for kids 10 yrs old and older.
Tron: Legacy is no longer showing in any Littleton, Colorado movie theatres.
