The Black Waters of Echo's Pond

A group of friends take a vacation in a large, beautiful mansion where they find an interesting board game. With nothing else to do, they begin playing the game when events take a strange and dangerous turn. The game brings out the ugliest qualities of the players revealing the goal of the game is to simply stay alive.

Robert Patrick (Pete), Danielle Harris (Kathy), Sean Lawlor (Charles), James Duval (Rick), Nick Mennell (Josh), Mircea Monroe (Veronique), Arcadiy Golubovich (Anton), Electra Avellan (Renee), Elise Avellan (Erica), Walker Howard (Trent), M.D. Walton (Robert), Declan Joyce (Danny).

The Black Waters of Echo's Pond begins with some slight back-story and character development before the game playing begins. From there things get nasty in a hurry and this one turns into your basic teen slasher flick. Although, a teen I spoke with who watched this was not impressed in the least. As the players take their turns things get more and more bloody until finally someone figures out finishing the game is the way to survive.

Acting was mediocre at best in this one with most of the cast feeling inexperienced and lacking the chemistry to even make us believe the main characters are all friends. Thankfully once people start dying the acting actually gets more interesting.

Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are pretty good throughout. Physical and CGI effects are good and fit the film well. Dialogue was a mix of boring, ridiculous, and even redundant. Sound and soundtrack were okay.

Overall The Black Waters of Echo's Pond is a reasonable entry level horror flick but not much more than that. If you aren't looking for depth this could be a good choice. Otherwise, skip along to something better.

With plenty of bloody, gory violence, foul language, drug use, and some sexuality including nudity, save this one for older teens and above.
