A group of astronauts on a lunar space station is surprised by a meteor shower that damages much of the station and their equipment. They are even more surprised to find the meteors include alien spores that replicate them and seem intent on destroying human life.
Christian Slater (Brauchman), Brendan Fehr (Krauss), Amy Matysio (Ava), Michael Therriault (Bruce Johns), Ryland Alexander (Marrietta), Lyndon Bray (Madsen), Mark Claxton (Guard).
After Lunar Base Ark is hit by a meteor shower one of the crew retrieves a piece of meteor which is found to have alien spores attached. While examining the spores Ava cuts her finger, is infected, becomes pregnant, and finally delivers an alien baby. As the aliens appear intent on eradicating the human race the remaining lunar crew at first struggle to survive, then work to keep the aliens from invading Earth. Though the summary sounds good, this one never really develops good energy but instead feels a lot like a poorly done Alien clone.
Acting in this one was hit and miss all around. Slater put forth the energy but didn't have the quality to save this one. Matysio felt like she didn't quite know what to do with her role. The remainder of the supporting cast felt inexperienced, at times less than genuine, and generally lacked energy on different levels.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were decent enough. The film appears to have had a reasonable budget which was wisely spent on sets and creature effects rather than space shots which felt a bit rough. Physical and creature effects, including makeup, were fairly well done and fit the film. CGI was a bit plain and easily spotted. Dialogue was okay though it could have been better and added more to the film. Sound and soundtrack were both okay.
Overall Stranded is a decent entry or mid-level sci-fi horror flick with fair technical quality all around. If you want something impressive, move along to something else. If you are a serious alien or sci-fi horror fan you may enjoy this one.
With plenty of blood, gore, action violence, and aliens save this for teens and above.
