Nov 26, 2010 - Is anyone out there really who they appear to be? That seems to be the question left behind by director Henry Jaglom’s movie, Queen of the Lot, now in several theaters in the LA area.
Starring Noah Wyle and Tanna Frederick, Queen of the Lot mixes drama with comedy in a story that can not but remind you of today’s Hollywood’s celebrities and their multiple DUIs, messy lives, and hate/love relationships with the paparazzi.
Maggie Chase (Frederick) is an actress who candidly reveals that the one thing she wants in life is fame. Since she knows that press coverage is achieved faster once “you do something really bad,” she is introduced doing house arrest and sporting a court ordered ankle bracelet. Her boyfriend Dov Lambert (Christopher Rydell) fulfills the cheating, drug using, egomaniac movie star character anyone would expect her to have. Most of the action happens at his home, where Maggie meets his brother, Aaron (Noah Wyle), a wanna-be-writer who figures out Maggie’s double personality and who happens to have one of his own.
The scene with Maggie chewing and spitting out her food (as in a dieting technique), reminiscent of a Sex and the City episode, is perhaps the one thing out of this movie that will stay with the viewers the longest.
Queen of the Lot is showing at Sunset 5 in Los Angeles, Monica 4-Plex in Santa Monica, Town Center 5 in Encino, Playhouse 7 in Pasadena, Cinemas Palme d’Or in Palm Desert, and Rancho Niguel 8 in Laguna Niguel. It is 118 minutes long and rated R.
