Live show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London. Starting off with some softer, mellow music things build up and the second half is some really dark, heavy metal tracks. This is a very nicely done music video on several levels.
This was my first exposure to Opeth and their musical range is incredible. Their softer stuff is really nice and mellow with good detail all around. The arrangements are amazing with variety, timing, and time changes. The heavier, death metal, sounds later on the disc are a direct contrast with extreme vocals, deep chords, and intense bass.
Video production quality was very nicely done. Excellent camera work with close up work not just on the performers but their instruments as well. There were several nice captures of riffs, chords and changes that you don’t get in a lot of music videos. Nice wide shots from the audience perspective added to the concert feel of the DVD. There was good focus shift between subjects without a lot of pointless cuts. Camera work obviously changed from the first to second half of the DVD, complimenting the style and speed of the music being played.
Sound, as you would hope from a music video, was clear and nicely done. Although it was a live concert there was very little background noise while at the same time minor sounds were included.
I’m sure Opeth fans will probably enjoy this DVD quite a bit. For anyone who hasn’t heard of them, very worth taking a look. With the variety of music they play you are sure to find something you will enjoy.
