Movie review: Iron Man 3 (2013)

Tony Stark is still Iron Man and seems to easily find a new villain intent on destroying the world. Having his life destroyed, Tony sets out to find those responsible and hold them accountable with extreme prejudice. Battling an enemy whose reach has no bounds he tries desperately to protect those he loves while saving the world.

Robert Downey Jr. (Tony), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper), Don Cheadle (Rhodes), Guy Pearce (Killian), Rebecca Hall (Maya), Jon Favreau (Happy), Ben Kingsley (Trevor), James Dale (Savin), Stephanie Szostak (Brandt), William Sadler (Ellis).

Iron Man 3 pretty much jumps right into the action without a lot of explaining. From there the film is a wonderful adventure of neat gadgets, amazing physical feats, and some drama to keep it real. There is also a lot of Iron Man getting beaten to a pulp. Sadly, in this episode Iron Man starts to feel more like a cockroach you can't kill than a super-hero. The drama keeps things a bit more realistic, but not enough, leading to a film that feels so fantastical squeezing every last penny from the franchise must be the goal. And don't miss the perfect sequel ending!

Acting was par for the course in this one. Downey once again lends his arrogance and dry wit to the Iron Man part. Paltrow was utilized more in this one which was enjoyable and she did well. Cheadle put forth some energy, as did Pearce and Kingsley. Favreau and the remainder of the cast did pretty good.

Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are over the top as should be expected. Physical effects were good while CGI, as usual, played a major role in this one. Dialogue was enjoyable with a nice mix of humor and drama. Sound and soundtrack were both well done.

Iron Man 3 is a solid entry in this franchise, though probably not the best episode to be found. Comic book action & adventure fans will likely enjoy this one.

With plenty of violence, sci-fi action, and some suggestive content, teens and above should be fine with this one. I doubt you could stop them from watching it anyway.
