In this revival of the 1980's TV series Schmidt and Jenko are a couple of recent police academy graduates who, though they disliked High School, are assigned to the 21 Jump Street undercover squad and sent right back to the school they disliked. What they find is that the cliques and attitudes have changed completely from when they were in school.
Jonah Hill (Schmidt), Channing Tatum (Jenko), Brie Larson (Molly), Dave Franco (Eric), Rob Riggle (Mr.Walters), DeRay Davis (Domingo), Ice Cube (Captain Dickson), Dax Flame (Zack), Chris Parnell (Mr. Gordon), Ellie Kemper (Ms. Griggs), Jake Johnson (Principal Dadier).
21 Jump Street takes off with plenty of good comedy with some solid background all the while slowly drawing you into the plot. This was an interesting remake based on the original TV series. Most remakes seem to focus on exactly replicating the original, or updating in some way, but 21 Jump Street does a good job of both with a solid focus on aspects of the original series. Although not completely enjoyable or as entertaining as hoped, the film is still pretty good and references to the series were fun.
Acting was good from both Hill and Tatum, and the two seem to have nice chemistry. Hill was funny as always while Tatum presented more skills than expected. Franco was a good choice and did very nicely in his role. Riggle, Ice Cube, Larson, and the remainder of the supporting cast were fun and added well to the film.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were solid and fit the film with the Camaro being a nice touch. Physical effects were mild but good and quite funny at times. Dialogue was good with some nice laughs. Sound and soundtrack were both fitting and enjoyable.
Overall 21 Jump Street is a solid action comedy without too much of either. Fans of the original TV series will likely enjoy this one while others may not understand your laughter at some parts.
With plenty of crude sexual content, foul language, drugs, alcohol, and some violence save this one for older teens and above.
21 Jump Street is no longer showing in any Littleton, Colorado movie theatres.
