Starring: Greg Kinnear (I Don't Know How She Does It), Dennis Quaid (What to Expect When You Are Expecting), Common (New Year's Eve), Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables), Kate Winslet (Contagian), Josh Duhamel (New Year's Eve), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games), Terrance Howard (Red Tails)
The movie is centered around a man named Charlie (Quaid) who is trying to sell his movie to production executive Griffin (Kinnear). His movie is made up of short movies and we get to match each idea unfold on the big screen.
There were a total of 11 movie shorts and 3 commercials. Each one had their own story with its own cast and each one had its own grotesque and crude set of jokes.
And each one was hilarious in its own way.
Going into this movie, I had no idea what it was about, which seemed to be the general theme with no one having an idea what the movie is about. But having watched the trailer, I didn't care.
Each movie short was roughly 10 minutes long and introduced us to a new set of characters. It would take probably an hour to talk about each set, so I will just discuss the three I liked the most.
The first one I liked was right out of the gate. Kate Winslet plays a business woman going on a blind date with rich executive Hugh Jackman. She thinks that he's the perfect guy, until she sees the rather noticeable defect on his throat. Now she has to spend the entire date trying to ignore it.
The second best short was the last one. It's about a man (Duhamel) whose very close relationship with his cat (who is animated btw) and it causes problems with his girlfriend (Banks).
The third best short was Terrance Howard's pep talk to his basketball team and why they are going to dominate the other team.
Each short had its funny moments and moments that may surprise you. It's not meant for the faint at heart or for anyone who doesn't like disgusting or crude jokes or comments (which is probably why many critics don't like it and why I love it). The movie doesn't have a point but it's not supposed to. It's meant to be funny and it is successful.
Overall, it's a great movie to see with your friends because it's got that 'quote-able' element to it. It's very important to go to the movie knowing that it's crazy, sometimes stupid humor, so if that's not your sense of humor, then you will probably find the movie stupid and over the top. But for me, crude and over the top is perfect.
