For some time now Mouth's trio of musicians have been established as leaders of the funky jam scene in Lawrence and Kansas City. The only constant in life is change, but fortunately change can be for the better. With no hard feelings, Mouth has acquired a new guitarist and in no time flat the band has adjusted to come out sounding better than ever.
Matt Gader of the Cosmopolitics has joined up with Mouth, maintaining the bands old quality of sound while adding some of his own technique to the mix. Having heard about this change before seeing the new lineup on stage, some fans were worried the old songs might be lost in the transition, but Matt has learned the guitar parts to the oldies perfectly.
To add to the band's triumphant return celebration at the Jazzhaus, Andrew Alback, percussionist for Blue Martian Tribe came down from Omaha to party with the band, playing hand drums alongside Gunner's regular drum set. The additional percussion gave both sets an extra layer of rhythm that spiced up some already juicy songs.
In this holiday stupor between Christmas and New Year's Eve, there aren't always a lot of folks out trying to party in Lawrence, but Mouth brought a hefty crowd to the Jazzhaus last night. During the first set the bar was crowded and by the second set the dance floor was over-flowing.
Bands may change, but sometimes change is a good thing. Mouth is continuing its upward trajectory without a hitch, so look forward to more quality concerts coming up in the year 2012! February 3rd the band shall be celebrating its third birthday, no doubt there will be an epic, raging concert to mark the occassion.
