The Pritchett-Dunphy family of “Modern Family” was at it again last night with “Farm Strong”.
After the more serious beginning to the fifth season of “Modern Family” with Mitchell and Cam’s engagement, episode four brought us our much needed weekly dose of laughs. Some of the funnier moments included Jay trying to convince Gloria—who is rebelling against the fact that she is aging—she needs glasses; Claire and Phil lying to Luke to get out of attending his soccer game, then Claire lying to Phil after she attends on her own and watches Luke play the game of his life; Phil’s reaction to killing a bunch of baby crows (or, as Manny calls them, a “murder”); and Jay beating Alex at Words with Friends and, to her dismay, without cheating.
However, the highlight of “Farm Strong” was the introduction of Cam’s sister, Pam, and the interaction between the two of them. Cam was worried that Pam would be jealous when she learned about his and Mitchell’s engagement so he wanted to put off telling her. However, when she found out, she was delighted and revealed that she also was engaged…to Cam’s high school crush. Thus ensued Cam’s jealousy and a closer look by the Pritchett-Dunphy family into a personality trait of his that we know and love: His sensitivity.
The family proceeds to reveal to Cam information they have kept from him because of his sensitivity, including that Haley does not like his signature look of “shirts with the crazy cuffs.” Yet the best revelation comes from Claire, who nervously tells Cam that after he canceled lunch with her, she ran into Beyoncé—the singer, not Pepper’s dog—and chatted with her for ten minutes. Cam is clearly upset, but Pam brings it around in the end by telling him that although he may not be “farm strong” and is a bit oversensitive, it also means he is an over-celebrator.
Watch “Modern Family” every Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
