Mo's Pit BBQ: Look Out Dinosaur BBQ, There is a New Pit Master in Town

Located on the corner of Milton Avenue and Bennett Road is a new BBQ restaurant called Mo's Pit BBQ & Cowboy Cuisine. Central New York has been longing for good BBQ for many years surprisingly the first legitimate BBQ joint opened up in 1988 called Dinosaur BBQ and this establishment has been bringing BBQ to Central New Yorkers ever since. Truly, their success story had rough beginnings but the owners have found a way to continue serving good BBQ over the past 20 years. Finally, a new BBQ pit master has come into town, someone who is worthy of the name "Good BBQ". Mo's Pit BBQ & Cowboy Cuisine, moved from the Finger Lakes Mall in Auburn to just outside of Camillus, edging closer to the Syracuse Metropolitan area. And what comes with Mo's is championship BBQ. The brisket has a nice bark on it, the ribs are super tender with a nice smoke ring on them, and the pulled pork is flavorful. This author did not try the chicken but there are two types offered, brined BBQ and Cornell style which is an upstate New York tradition. Mo's BBQ style is a mix of Texas and Memphis methodologies. The brisket will stand up to BBQ brisket giants like Kreuz or Black's BBQ in Lockhart, Texas, declared the BBQ Capital of Texas. The ribs will hold their own to the ribs from Interstate Barbecue and Rendezvous Charcoal Ribs in Memphis, Tennessee, known throughout the world for its pork BBQ. Oh yeah, let’s not forget about the sides. This author had Mac n Cheese, coleslaw and the cowboy beans. Each meal comes with two sides (This author wanted to try the cowboy beans as well); their homemade Mac n Cheese was on point, the coleslaw was genuine, but I wish there were brisket burnt end points in the beans to take them to another dimension. They were good but not what I want in a baked bean (personal preference). The cornbread was northern good; as most people in this area likes cornbread sweeten with sugar and or honey and this cornbread was that (same as the Dinosaur BBQ). In the south cornbread is more savory (personal preference again). All in all it is difficult to please everyone's personal preference but good BBQ is good BBQ no matter where it comes from. So if you don't like smoke than you want something other than good BBQ and that's ok, but if you are looking for a meal that consist of "low and slow"  cooking goodness than you are looking for authentic BBQ and Mo's should be the place to go to to get great BBQ.
