Last Action Hero Blu-ray

Prior to his stint as Governor and recent return to the action world, Arnold Schwarzenegger had already established himself as an action icon. Despite delivering some awesome action films he had a few clunkers along the way like everyone else. When he teamed up with ‘Predator’ and ‘Die Hard’ director for Last Action Hero everyone expected magic, but instead got something completely different. While it has been released on Blu-ray already, Mill Creek Entertainment is re-releasing the film at an all-new affordable price.

If you never saw this film it follows a big fan of Jack Slater, a larger-than-life action hero played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. When his best friend, the theater projectionist, gives him a magic ticket to the new Jack Slater film, he is transported into Slater's world, where the good guys always win. One of Slater's enemies, Benedict the hitman, gets hold of the ticket and ends up in the real world, where he realizes that if he can kill Schwarzenegger, Slater will be no more. While the film really tried to be clever it actually ended up being somewhat of a mess. The story is clearly meant to mock itself and the ridiculous nature of the action genre and while there are some entertaining moments it really ends up being more silly than anything. This film has managed to become a guilty pleasure for fans sporting all the clichéd action sequences and dialogue along with a ridiculous family film-esque plot. Whether it was meant to or not it plays more towards a younger audience who are more likely to enjoy the silliness of it all than the average action fan. Despite its issues the film had a great cast alongside Schwarzenegger including F. Murray Abraham, Art Carney, Tom Noonan, and Anthony Quinn, but it is the random cameos from Ian McKellan, M.C. Hammer, Tina Turner, Melvin Van Peebles, Leeza Gibbons, James Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jean Claude Van Damme, Damon Wayans, Danny DeVito, Sharon Stone, Robert Patric and more that makes it the most fun.

While most may or may not admit it this film sports some great old school action and really funny moments, but just never lived up to what everyone probably thought they were delivering. If you have never checked it out, now is your chance to get in on the cheesy fun and jump into the movie when it hits Blu-ray on July 22nd.
