Mill Creek delivers all new ‘Flatliners’ to Blu-ray

Over the years there have been numerous films that sport that generations popular hot actors and actresses in hopes to create something special. In 1990 director Joel Schumacher did just that with his science fiction thriller Flatliners featuring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, and Oliver Platt. Now Mill Creek Entertainment is bringing this thriller home for a whole new generation on Blu-ray.

Flatliners follows a group of medical students who begin to explore the realm of near death experiences, hoping for insights with each having their heart stopped and revived. They begin having flashes of walking nightmares from their childhood, reflecting sins they committed or had committed against them. The experiences continue to intensify, and they begin to be physically beaten by their visions as they try and go deeper into the death experience to find a cure. This is one of those films that seems to affect everyone differently. At the time of its release it played as an original thriller that those that got it really liked it, those that didn’t seem to hate it. There is no denying this is an intriguing film and the cast are all great. At times it is a bit convoluted and all over the place but as a whole it works really well. It holds up decent enough despite seeing these actors in so many other iconic roles. Those that have never seen it might be a bit underwhelmed as there have been others in the same vein over the years, but none have the star power as this one.

This film isn’t breaking down any barriers in the genre, but it holds up as a good film with a great young cast that should be watched for no other reason than to see these young A-listers back in the day. This film has its fan base and will no doubt be a must have for some, but if you somehow missed it now is a great time to check it out and add to your collection at an affordable price.
