Mill Creek brings the theatrical cut of ‘Donnie Brasco’ to Blu-ray

Donnie Brasco

While Johnny Depp may have a big of struggles as of late with his most recent big budget releases this was obviously not always the case. In 1997 Depp teamed up with Pacino for Mike Newell’s true story crime drama Donnie Brasco. There have been a few releases of the film and now Mill Creek Entertainment is bringing the original theatrical cut to Blu-ray.

Donnie Brasco follows the true story of an FBI agent as he infiltrates the mafia of New York. Befriending Lefty Ruggiero, he is able to embed himself in a mafia faction lead by Sonny Black. Eventually, the group become big time when Black himself becomes a boss, all the while he collects evidence. However, the trials and tribulations of the undercover work become more than he can bear. His marriage falls apart and to top it off, the mafia suspects a mole in the organization. For anyone that has seen this movie knows that it is great. Depp is in top form alongside Pacino who seems to always embody these mob roles. They have great chemistry together that brings the emotional direction and growth of their relationship to new heights. They did a great job recreating the 1978 set piece and helps to bring this true life story to perfect life in a near perfect film of the genre. Some might complain that this film doesn’t sport enough of the action side of the genre, but this is all about the characters and their relationships all while struggling with their roles in the business and life making for a compelling story.

If you enjoy these films that we just don’t get enough of these days then Donnie Brasco is one you should check out. It’s filled with great performances and a great story and thanks to Mill Creek now is your chance to bring it home at an affordable price available now.
