Mill Creek has made a name for themselves over the years for bringing quality entertainment for an affordable price to the masses. While a lot of their releases are that of older films being re-released they also feature some exclusive first time releases. Their latest coming to Blu-ray is the 1985 cult classic The Legend of Billie Jean starring Helen Slater, Yeardley Smith, Peter Coyote, Dean Stockwell and Christian Slater in his first feature film role.
In case you have never seen this film it follows a Texas teen who is caught up in an odd fight for justice. She is usually followed and harrased around by local boys, who, one day, decide to trash her brother's scooter for fun. The boys' father refuses to pay them back the price of the scooter. The fight for "fair is fair" takes the teens around the state and produces an unlikely hero. This film is filled with all the usual clichéd 80s styles and visuals. This is one of those films that worked to bring some sort of message and managed to capture a cult status with fans on video. The film is well acted and while the story is pretty predictable still holds up decently for any that was already a fan of it. Those that have never had the chance to check it out should give it a shot, just remember when it was made and have some fun.
While there has been a DVD release of this Mill Creek is finally bringing this film to Blu-ray and not only features the film, but an all-new commentary from Helen Slater and Yeardley Smith. Join the media circus and get behind Billie Jean when The Legend of Billie Jean hits Blu-ray on July 22nd.
