'A Chorus Line' at Maltz Jupiter Theatre

BroadwayGlobal and Theatre Chat share many Broadway shows, as well as regional theatre reviews, but has Florida become the Broadway of the South? The production values seem to grow with every South Florida production. Maltz Jupiter Theatre's opening night of "A Chorus Line" hit every Marvin Hamlisch note, under the brilliant Musical Direction of multi Carbonell Award winner Eric Alsford. Director and Choreographer Josh Walden has captured Bennett's movement, and just as important, the heart and soul of the stories created by real New York dancers, living on the line. This performance brings chills to the audience, as if Michael Bennett is smiling from the heavens on this very talented cast.

Back when the show was first created, triple threats were really just being developed. The dancers were never seen as singing stars, but as dancers who could carry a note. The current production at Maltz Jupiter Theatre sounds more glorious then ever. Every dancer's voice fits the characters lives that they each are sharing. To pick stars out of this musical is difficult, not just because the idea is for all of them to blend as one ensemble, "A Chorus Line". Real dancers shared their true life stories to create this modern classic. "Maltz Jupiter Theatre production of "A Chorus Line" gives chilling fresh energy to this modern classic." BroadwayGlobal.

Each cast member shines as their journey's are shared on the line. Standouts are Elizabeth Earley (Cassie) her acting, singing and show stopping song, "The Music and the Mirror" which is performed to perfection. Brain Ogilvie (Zach) playing the straight director/choreographer gives audiences the love to hate role, Demarius R. Copes (Richie) is vibrant, youthful and powerful in "Gimme the Ball". Jennifer Byrne (Shelia) is sexy and sultry playing the oldest dancer on the line, Michael Callahan (Mike) hits a high note with his hot Italian role from the Bronx singing "I Can Do That" (Wayne Cilento would be proud, who by the way did not play his real life story), Gilllian Munsayac (Connie) humorous as the token Broadway Asian dancer on the line (sadly Broadway casting has not changed much since this iconic musical).

Shain Stroff (Larry) playing the directors's assistant role is dead on, Becca Andrews (Val) is bubbling blond we all adore singing "Dance: Ten; Looks: Three", the finest dancer Jordan Fife Hunt (Paul) brings tears to your eyes, Logan Kesler (Bobby), Noah Aberlin (Don) , Camden Gonzales (Diana) sings and acts the role well, but physically does not match, a thicker Puerto Rican accent would help her pull off the lines, but Gonzales still captures the journey of the character when she sing "Nothing".

Alex Agilar (Al) and Lindsy Bell (Kristine) play off the newly married couple in "Sing", Logan Keslar shines as the witty flamboyant (Bobby). The entire cast sparkle throughout their performance on the line including; Niki Allred (Vicki), Anne Bloemendal (Judy), Jessica Dillan (Maggie), KC Fredricks (Mark), Laura Guley (Lois), Adam Lendermon (Greg), Nick Lovalvo (Tom), Jessica Periera (Butch), Michelle Petrucci (Bebe), Emily Rynasko (Tricia) and Brain Varela (Roy).

The song "I Hope I Get It" has a whole new meaning, as there are only 200 tickets left for this entire run. So, when you call the box office you might be saying " I Hope I Get It". Matlz Jupite Theatre had just expanded their lobby, seating, VIP club level and it looks like supporters will be singing " What I Did For Love" as their love of Broadway productions sells out to capacity. As always the production team of sound, lights, costumes and sets are that of any Broadway production.
