The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) honored impresario Judy Drucker for her contributions to Miami with the "MISO Golden Baton Recognition Award" at its annual "Ocean Drive in Vienna" concert on January 19 at the Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

"Judy has been a pioneer for more than 40 years bringing world-class talent to our community," said Eduardo Marturet, MISO's Conductor and Music Director. "The award committee unanimously recognized Judy as one of the most important leaders in the development of Miami's unique arts explosion."

Two original World Premiere compositions from MISO's Composers-in- Residence program, supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and matching funders, were performed along with the traditional music of Strauss and other composers at MISO's most popular subscription concert of the season.

In addition to this blend of the tropical rhythms of South Florida with the classical sounds of Vienna, local plein-air painter Erik Speyer captured the scene on canvas (what's quickly has become a MISO New Year's tradition).

What was hot, cool, good and best?

Hot: The gown wore by Athina Klioumi, wife and muse of the MISO’s director, Eduardo Marturet— the stunning white dress was a fashion hit of Miami based designer, Viviana Gabeiras. Another elegant woman who gained a lot of deal of attention was Mrs. Cossima Preuss Kuhne, who wore an amazing outfit designed by Naeem Kham—it was a very fashionable night!

Cool: The actor Christian Meier (The Latino Zorro) performing a wonderful gig with the mercurial, energetic conductor and the Miami Symphony Orchestra—definitely Meier won over the audience!

Good: The recognition to the legacy of Judy Drucker —the award was designed by local Miami artist, Ramon Aular.

Best: The Maestro, Eduardo Marturet conducting with birds (cockatoos and parrots) classical pieces fuse into salsa together--amazing performance!
