From European Romanticism to American Romance was the title of the recital I attended last night at the Culture Arts Center of Aventura. The recital was presented by the prestigious Miami International Piano Festival featuring the french pianist Eric Ferrand.
The first part of the program included Rondo Capriccioso by Felix Mendelssohn, Liszt transcription for piano of Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique and Love Dream (Nocturene No 3) and Frederic Shopin Scherzo No2.
To an avid audience, Mr Ferrand performed the Mendelssohn with clear tone and musicality, the Love's dream of Liszt was absolutely beautiful preserving the delicacies and tenderness of the piece but at the same time played in a virtuoso style; followed by the Chopin Scherzo, very well performed with good taste, you could notes Mr Ferrand loves Chopin.
After intermission the program followed with an original version for piano solo from the great American composer George Gershwin "Rapsodie in Blue" , this piece was very well played and the audience loved it , but Mr Ferrand demonstrated his intuitive knowlege of adapting to various styles specially more modern jazz music when he performed the three Preludes by Gershwin.
The Recital ended with a tribute to Art Tatum, Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson. Eric Ferrand has a special ability for improvisations in various styles of music. This pianist has an excelent technic and a fine musical taste.
The audience gave him a standing ovation
Bravo to Mr Ferrand and to the International Piano Festival !
And see you at the concerts!
