This past weekend (Feb. 26 & 27) was Miami's first Wizard World's convention.
Miami Comic Con 2011 began with a red carpet opening ceremony. The guest stars were suppose to enter the convention via this press-lined walkway, but most decided not to.
Fortunately, not all was lost. The local groups took full advantage of this opportunity to get their names out there in place of the major celebrities. The Society for Creative Anarchism (SCA) and Urban Ronin showed off their skills to cameras and guests.
Since the last SuperCon, the Miami Airport Convention Center (formerly the Double Tree Hotel and convention center) has been remodeling. Comic Con took full advantage of all the space available to them. The main showroom was packed with vendors, artists and fan tables. Celebrity guests had their own booths as well.
Anime fans would have recognized Tate's Comics and the 3000 Brigade while perusing the isles.
The South Florida anime community website Orange Anime was also there handing out flyers and candy.
Dreams came true for some fans at Miami Comic Con's various Q & A panels. One fan even asked Billy Dee Williams to record a voice mail greeting on his cell phone. Before his agent could stop him, the "coolest man in the universe" made this fan's day and said, "Why not?" All other Star Wars fans were green with envy.
Since this gathering was mainly focused on comic books, there were few anime-related events.
