There used to be a lot of places to go salsa dancing on Tuesday nights in San Jose, but these days the place to be Mexico Lindo. Mexico Lindo, as its name suggests, is a Mexican restaurant/bar located right on the corner of Alameda and Park, just a couple blocks away from Shark's Stadium.
During the daytime Mexico Lindo is just an unassuming restaurant, but on Tuesday nights it transforms into a salsa club. The back room of the restaurant has a nice dance floor with a great sound system and fantastic lighting, that will get you in the dancing mood.
The evening begins at 8pm, with the instructors giving a beginning lesson in salsa and bachata, two Latin dances that are popular at all the clubs. Afterwards, the dance floor is open for you to practice the moves you learned and enjoy the rest of the night dancing. Dancing typically goes until 12 or 1am in the morning, depending on how packed the place is.
Mexico Lindo also offers a full bar, so if you need a little liquid courage to get you moving, then they have a full selection of beers and spirits. The restaurant also has some great food, but they stop serving it around 8pm, so you'll need to get there earlier if you want to grab a bit to eat.
The dance floor never gets too packed at Mexico Lindo, and the dancers tend to be more beginners, so if you're a salsa veteran you might want to set your sights on Albertos to the north in Mountain View, but if you're a beginning to intermediate salsero living in the South Bay, Mexico Lindo is the perfect place to unwind, have a drink, and dance some salsa.
