Gary Lanza's Meriidian Kitchen is the type of small, intimate, restaurant that would be successful in most long island communities. Gary is a youthful, dynamic and skilled hospitality pro with a strong family background in the restaurant business. Gary wanted to create and run a highly diverse eclectic restaurant in the town and followed his dream when he build Meridian Kitchen in the quaint and upscale community of locust valley.
Although diminutive in size, Meridian kitchen has attracted clients from the north and south shore. Meridan may be small in size, but their menu is exciting and filled with exotic Asian dishes as well as continental selections and a full range of delicious comfort foods. We love the leisurely drive from our home to Locust Valley and its magnificent homes, winding roads, proximity to the shore, and retro shops.
We visited Meridian Kitchen on a thursday night in April and found it to be a delightful dining experience. We talked briefly to Gary about his background in the business and his reputation for sensational sushi and sashimi dishes. Ever the entrepreneur, and foodie, Gary loved the fabulous sushi he discovered in nearby Sea Cliff at restaurant specializing in Sushi/Sashimi . Gary was able to hire these sushi "artists" and bring them to meridian. They continued creating some of the most exotic and fabulous sushi/sashimi creations and their skill immediately attracted clients.
We visited Gary and Meridian Kitchen on a Thursday evening in April and found the dining experience a very pleasant surprise. Located in the town of locust valley meridian has the look of an urban chic restaurant bar. Gary greeted us at the door and directed us to a small table by the busy bar. The restaurant has been beautifully furnished with the use of dark wood, beautiful lighting and mirrors.
Our menu for the evening was a sampling of meridian's asian menu with an awesome assortment of sushi, sashimi, small plates, teriyaki, and salads.
we started with two beautifully presented small plate appetizers:
-Pan Seared Quesadilla- Sweet and Sour beef, cheddar and spicy mayo in a large dumpling- tasty, and enjoyable..
-Grilled Miso chilean sea bass- Tender, moist freshly grilled fish with assorted greens. The miso dressing gave this fish dish a special "kick'.
-A traditional caesar salad - large romaine leaves, anchovies, parmesan cheese, croutons - a perfect dish to segue into our entrees.
We then proceeded to sample a fabulous fish entree:
A large portion of grilled large shell shrimp- Extra large and plump shrimp grilled to perfection accompanied by dipping sauces. Terrific.
We ate, talked to some of the other diners who eat at Meridian regularly and love the food.
We finished our meridian dining experience with coffee, and tea.
A fun, highly enjoyable evening with exotic food prepared and served to perfection. We will definitely be back to Meridian! Kudos to Gary Lanza and his amazing sushi chefs!
