The Vontrapp children

Do, a deer, a female deer…
The Vontrapp children appear after the whistle and audience members get a glimpse at the seven children. Their acting at first glance is very good for their individual ages. We don’t get to see them sing right away. Shortly after we get to see them meet Maria and her teach them their first song ever. Do Re Mi starts off a bit boring, simply because Carrie Underwood is not the best fit for the part. She does not in any way ruin the musical, but her acting is stiff and boring. Maria is a very bright, happy, energetic character, and Carrie Underwood does not take on all of the characteristics as well as she could. She does not own the stage on her own by far.
Once the children really join in, the atmosphere changes for the better. The song takes a turn for the better and the song comes alive with the sound of great music. The children have the ability to make or break this live musical event, and they prove that they can make this musical great with their very first performance as a group, and that is a fantastic fact.
The children all perform very well. They are all full of energy and you can sense, even though the television, that they are having fun and performing to the best of their ability. Their fun and excited energy translates to audiences everywhere watching. You forget about the stiff performance of Carrie Underwood when those children surround her and bring the musical to life.
