Facepaint, tambourines and brightly colored scarves are listed more likely as props for a street show in Europe than a hip New York City gig on a Saturday night.

Bad Buka played two consecutive sets at Old Prague Tavern in Astoria with all of these items on hand, setting a scene for celebration as the gypsy ska band prepares to release its debut album in 2014.

The band's last live audience of 2013 included a mix of hip yuppies and Queens natives. By the end of the second set, the night's dwellers were rounded up into a dance circle led by bandmember Carla T.

Each player has a distinct look and sound, collaborating to create an explosive act. With a fiery punk sound and an unpaved recording career, Bad Buka's live energy impressed. The band will release its first full length, Through The Night in 2014.
