Energy bars is not a new concept even if today’s bars come in a plethora of flavors, ingredients and even packages. Some of the most popular include Oats ‘n Honey bars, Crunchy Chocolate, Salty Caramel, Peanut Butter Bars and many others that often combine nuts with seeds and dried fruit. But the newest version of them, the Bars 2.0 you would say, are the savory bars.
Mediterra launched recently the Sundried Tomato & Basil Savory Bar and I was lucky to try it early.
Mediterra Sundried Tomato & Basil Savory Bar is an all natural savory bar made with sundried tomatoes, aromatic basil, piquant capers, pea crisps, brown rice syrup, pecans, cashews, currants and extra virgin olive oil. This bar is free from gluten and GMOs and is kosher certified.
Let’s take a look at the nutrition facts. Each bar has only 160 calories and total fat of 6g. There is no cholesterol or trans fat; the total carbohydrates reach the level of 17g, 6g of which is fiber and 4g is sugar. Protein is at 6g -higher than the chocolatey version of bars- and sodium at 220mg.
I think that the bar is perfectly balanced and the savory flavors do not overpower the elements of sweetness. The currants and the brown rice syrup blend nicely with the dried tomatoes, capers and nuts making it a very unique bar and perfect for your lunch break.
