A few days ago, my husband and I were in the drive-up at McDonald's in the central Illinois area. A banner advertised the new Fish McBites... Being a fan of the McFish sandwich, I thought it would be something to try. The price was reasonable ($1.99) and the size was also acceptable (a little cardboard snack container). A little container of tarter-sauce was also included to dip the bites in.
We popped our first bites into our mouths as we drove out of McDonald's. I felt like I was eating a fish-stick that someone had cut into little pieces for me. The fish batter was too thick, and there wasn't much meat inside the bite. I half wondered if I was eating toddler food...
My husband offered some of the tarter-sauce. Perhaps this would make it taste better? (I wasn't convinced this, but thought it was worth the shot). I dipped the bite into the sauce...ughh-not much better at all! The tarter sauce had too much of a pickled taste.
Over-all, I was pretty disappointed. I enjoy the simple moist fish sandwich that I buy at McDonald's from time to time. The fish bites are nothing compared to the sandwich. I don't think I plan on buying anymore of the fish bites, unless they change the recipe some. Perhaps if the batter wasn't as thick or if the bites didn't taste like some type of frozen cheap fish that you buy at the market....
If McDonald's keeps the recipe the same, I don't really see fish bites sticking around too long...
