Besides being a great place to visit, Maui is a great place to live. Having said that, Please don't move here. It's gotten too crowded.
The week end started off with a cutting of the cord at the doorway of a new business in Kihei Center by Long's on South Kihei Road. The events that will continue over the rest of the week end until Sunday evening, are inspired by The Grand Opening of Awakening in Paradise.
There's a day and evening of live music outside, and a festive feel to the indoors of this busy gathering place to connect with old and new friends & inner desires. There are card readers, basic pupus, gift items to buy, goddess clothing, jewelry and an array of delectables. Come and support your consciousness for a type of healing that transcends your every day shopping experience.
You will have to trust me on this one and just show up. I will be there to greet you (outside).
Long's Drug Store carries my best selling book, or you can track me down for your own personalize copy that I will sign. I do that every day and you will love my award winning book. It's A Photographic Journey, The Island of Maui... You have to meet my friend Alan who embodies aloha in a way that few people from the mainland ever come to understand. He brought a lovely lei over to welcome his new neighbors! No wonder Long's is so successful here in Kihei. We go there for everything and so does everyone that lives and visits on Maui. His generosity reminds me of what neighborhood communities are all about. He is Awesome and I told him so yesterday.
I am easy to spot on the dance floor and you all have my photo on here.
Last night I headed over to Stella Blues and heard Uncle Willie K for a brief set. He was slamming on the guitar as usual. He played a version of Songbird that he performed for the Dali Lama and I had to get up on the floor and pay homage.. It was truly a moment. The place was Packed! & at 10 PM and $10, who wouldn't stop by for a listen to this controversial legend of Maui.
Willie's sisters were working the door and they were a Hoot!
Lot's of fun in Kihei for the rest of the week end, come and join us...
Bounty Music in Kahului, which I consider our only True music store, although others are saying Lahaina side has opened one music store, I never go there... West side too far....Yahhhh brah? Anyway, I love Paul and his family and as a musician I love supporting them, so when the emailed and invited me to this VIP event, I RSVPed immediately.. Typo's are intentional by the way with my professional and unique word smithery, just sayin....
Anyway the Rep. from Taylor guitar in the San Diego area was there for VIP appointments. I had set mine up for 3:30 but they took me early. Lots of fun jamming with other local musician, get some free strings as we say in Hawaii and feast our eyes and ears on the sights and sounds of these baby and full size Taylor guitars.
I love singing Jim Croce and other old James Taylor songs and we had a blast.
Enjoyed singing with Alex and the Kine...
Lot's of fun.
Yesterday's music at The Grand Opening of Awakening In Paradise (some name for a store front, right?) included Omar who the Maui community has come to love & embrace, and later in the day some beasts of musicians that are calling themselves Eddie and The Promises... Eddie was a trip and he had some of Maui's finest players on Sax, and Bass accompanying him. Shout out to Joe and Rudy. It doesn't get any better than that! We danced until 9, Outdoors, under the moon, in the corner over there by Long's. Lot's of free fun for some well paid musicians. I love that.
Today will be the same format but different talent.. So you didn't miss out and I got up early to publish this so you wouldn't.
See you there today and tomorrow. You can come and go and you will be calling and inviting all your friends. We have a new age, new conscious community on Maui and this is it...So, it's your time to step in and jump to the inner tunes of your own personal enlightenment. I certainly did and am glad to do so again and again.
The fun starts in a few hours. Check out the web site for her sister store in Haiku. In fact, just for fun...Google Maui or Kihei, Awakening in Paradise and see what shows up.
This could get you to a schedule of events for the rest of the week end.
Lots of Love and Aloha for now I have two more reviews to pop out here this morning and keep on schedule... See Wed. Night in Wailea review and also Monkey Pod Kitchen.
Best of the Best to you,
