When God made fashion designers, he laid out time so that one of his Goddesses could reign down upon the world in modern day creation and her name is Mary Katrantzou. If you are already a fan, you are probably an adventuress or a fashionista or a lover of all fashion pushed forward or maybe just art itself. Fashion loves her not only because she is a genius and shaper of the things you will wear in the future, but also because when she puts on a show she is still one of the most anticipated inspirations. She is known for her forward thinking prints and telling a story with her imagery in the form of fabric. She started her SS14 show with enlarged textiles like those found on shoes and since the shoes were a focus for many at this show in particular, it could be overlooked that they were gigantic! The story goes on and the perfectly placed enlarged printed leather eyelets start to twist and turn and shred so that one cannot help but think we are Alice possibly shrinking and falling down a rabbit hole. And then the floral prints come into the backdrop of the giant textile prints. The next thing you know we are watching futuristic garden fairies with oversized ruffles or sleek silhouettes, both in every girlie color way mixed with a series of deliberate textiles. The ruffle compliments on several pieces were a nice addition to her esthetic for a change and the clean finishing on the entire collection maintains appreciation. There is a lightness to all that is going on in her designs and it seems effortless. Mary in Wonderland of the future; whose shoes matched each and every look pleased eyes yet again… all that was missing was a pet bunny.
