Mary J. Blige at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert

Mary J Blige

In doing some research I found out that the Nobel Peace Prize Concert has been happening since 1994. Shame on me for not knowing anything about this before. On December 11th I just happened to be sitting on my couch flipping channels when I came across this wonderful show of musicianship. All on one stage.

British singer Morrissey, Jake Bugg, rapper, and Omar Souleyman joined multiple Grammy nominated British singer-songwriter James Blunt, Swedish teen sensation Zara Larsson, and Norwegian hip hop duo Envy and nine time Grammy Award winning singer Mary J. Blige.

This event happened on a world stage at the 20th annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert on Wednesday, December 11th in Oslo, Norway at the Oslo Spektrum arena. Actress Claire Danes hosted the program and I was quite pleased.

Ms. Blige came on the stage singing her anthem, "Family Affair". Her voice sounded crisp and clear and while singing through the phrases with good breath the song seemed to lack energy. This might have been due to the lack of energy coming from the audience.

Her second song, "Just Fine" was even more of a struggle. This song is fast paced and very wordy. It's very difficult to sing live. Again, the audience was no help. Most times the artist can gain energy from external sources. In this case, there was nothing to obtain.

Ms. Blige did a great job singing two of her greatest anthem-like material. I would have liked to hear something more soulful but hey, who am I?

I really enjoyed just experiencing her at this important event looking great and making us feel good.
