Marvel has been on a mad tear as of late revamping and rebooting numerous titles in their line up while also delivering tons of new ones as well. One of the latest kicking off in a new series is Marvel’s resident vigilante The Punisher from creators Nathan Edmondson and Mitch Gerads.

In this latest series the Punisher has called New York City his home for years, keeping a watchful eye on the city through the sight of a gun. But when a lead on a major source of drugs, weapons, and more leads Frank out west he sets his sights on Los Angeles and it isn’t ready for the Punisher! But not everything is as it appears, and Frank will soon find himself toe-to-toe with a highly trained military strike force known only as the 131, but who are they and why are they out for the his head? This latest series kicks off right away with the Punisher doing what he does best while setting the tone to where this series is likely headed. Castle is probably one of the only characters that can be launched this way, right into the action and always make sense, so big props for not trying to reinvent the character like it had been done in the past and letting him just be the Punisher. The artwork used for this character is always tricky as they need a gritty style artist to match the tone these stories should have and thankfully they have that with Mitch Gerads. This style is one that may or may not resonate with everyone, but works great here for The Punisher giving him an aged weathered look as though he has been in a war for as long as we all know he has.

This premiere issue sets the tone complete with some great kills and gore making sure the fans know that this is not a watered down Punisher, but instead the way he is supposed to be. If you are a fan of the Punisher, then you will most likely already be checking this issue out, but if for some reason you have not joined his war on crime, now is your chance to step back behind the trigger.
