Get ready for the best movie of the summer. Semi-popular heroes sail onto the big screen riding their intergalactic spacecraft and badassery in “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

After the exaggerated drama in the beginning, the superkid in us all is taken on a journey with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), a slick talking loner and thief. On a mission to acquire an orb for a third party vendor, Quill is ambushed by Ronan’s guards.

Quickly, we learn this orb is the escapement that makes “Guardians” tick. Quill finds himself locked at the hip with fellow misfits and soon they discover they are running out of time. The name of the game? Stop the bad guy, save the world, get the girl and maybe discover a bit about yourself along the way.

The team endures growing pains before they become the pack they need to be, but Quill, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Drax (Dave Bautista) saddle up for this interplanetary adventure and in the midst learn friendship and teamwork. Together is the only way they will save the world.

If you’re waiting for movies to make you feel how you did when you were little, wait no more. Brilliant use of 3-D, a sensational soundtrack and wise-cracking adorable characters make this movie a complete joy to experience. The bigness of the shots, the music, the language and the character types all inspire nostalgia.

There is humor, touching backstories, action, romance and dancing! This movie has got it all. Including a new heartthrob, ehem, Chris Pratt.

Even with an unnecessary trip to see The Collector that reveals information in a less than exciting way and an overly thin Saldana whose not-completely-healthy body image distracts, “Guardians of the Galaxy” does nearly no wrong. It is a must see. Multiple times.

They’re giving those other Marvel favorites a run for their money.
